Basic Approach:

Our area of expertise is in planning and scheduling and resource management: sales and operations planning, master production scheduling, performance assessment, etc.

We don’t offer quick fixes, and we don’t send any army of consultants to do pretty flow charts and manuals while your people struggle with operating the system the old way.  Your people do the work and will get the credit.  And you get the benefits in reduced operating costs, and improved profits.

What we can do is:

  • Help identify key measurements you can focus on.
  • Help you create appropriate accountabilities in your unique environment.
  • Help you lay out a program and stay on track.
  • Educate your people so they can make the improvements and become self-sufficient.

S&OP is one area where companies can enjoy early successes.  There is no need to reinvent the wheel.  And having advice from someone who's been successful is the best insurance that you are on the right track.

S&OP Software Evaluation and Selection:

For many companies, like it or not, software evaluation and selection (or software development) is a major milestone in the journey to S&OP. We provide the only in-depth, unbiased approach to evaluating S&OP software.

As is the case with other implementation activities, our basic approach is to help make you self-sufficient in evaluating and selecting software. Our  consulting and education focuses on understanding both the process of evaluating software, and the functionality that must be present to make a new system a success in your company.

Implementation Assistance

We can help your team:

  • Develop their implementation plan,
  • Schedule the project,
  • Identify the total set of tasks to be accomplished
  • Identify requirements for systems tools and data,
  • Define policies and performance measurements,
  • Solve technical problems, Advise on organizational issues,
  • Provide the education to prepare the users to operate the process, and
  • Evaluate project progress.

Our basic approach and philosophy is that our job is to prepare your team to design and implement successfully.  Our goal is to help you accomplish the task, but not to do the work in place of your own people.

The most successful processes and systems are those in which the ultimate users have developed knowledge and ownership by bearing the responsibility for making them work.  By the time our work is finished, your organization will be entirely self-reliant and capable of operating and sustaining your improved planning and scheduling processes without our  assistance.

Post Implementation

If you've already implemented S&OP but haven't gotten all the benefits you expected, we may be able to help.

Our goal in support of your process improvement efforts is to make you self-sufficient, both in terms of operating the new processes and in assessing their performance and making adjustments.  We can visit frequently enough to give you an independent perspective and proper support and guidance, without visiting so frequently that our effectiveness as a consultant is compromised.

Our approach ensures that you have:

  • Defined the specific results and benefits you are trying to achieve
  • Made clear assignment of responsibilities
  • Have honestly assessed your starting point, using standard measures of performance
  • Identified the educational materials needed to support the improvement plan
  • Designed the appropriate operating procedures
  • Tested proposed changes against real experience
  • Continued to monitor results through your performance measurement process.

By bringing an outsider's eyes to your improvement program, we can help you take an objective look at current processes, practices, procedures and methods.  We can get you on a path to fast results and then keep you on that path until you have achieved your objectives.

Performance Assessment - Achieving Class A Results

Class A is a measurement of how effectively a company accomplishes the resource planning and scheduling activities of the business.

We can perform an objective assessment of your S&OP and related processes, using a standardized and widely accepted checklist.  The following areas are covered:

  • Commitment to excellence
  • Strategic planning
  • Business planning
  • Sales and operations planning, including the Five Step Process
  • Accountable forecasting processes
  • Sales planning and demand management
  • Rough cut capacity management
  • Integration with detailed planning systems

In addition, you must demonstrate acceptable performance against objective standards in:

  • Customer service (delivery performance)
  • Shipping performance
  • Sales plan performance
  • Supply plan performance
  • Inventory or backlog performance

You owe it to yourself to find out, objectively, how well you are actually doing with S&OP.
